Now why you might day? Isn't Daenerys fit the prophecy better? Even Melisandre thinks it now, but she was wrong before. He was reborn, he is of Fire and Ice. He is the prince that was Promised. A bastard whose lineage was stolen from him from by a noble but at the end a very foolish uncle. After Robert Baratheon death, Ned Stark should have supported john as the legitimate heir to the throne. He failed his sister and his family.
